Project pocket beta release

the launch of a new web application

28 February 2007

Today me and my housemate peterpixel launched a beta version of project pocket. Project pocket is a web application that allows you to easily share project files with your team members. Go check it out, and tell me what you think!

Easy file sharing only

We had the feeling that students (like us) where in need of an easy way to share their files. Because files tend to get lost on harddrives, usb sticks, mailboxes etc. With Project pocket the files of you and your team mates are saved on the internet. Only your team has access to a nice overview of all the files. I hear you thinking, ‘you will never beat 37Signals’ Basecamp…’. But Project pocket is different. It focuses solely on file sharing. Not project management. We noticed that students don’t like advanced project management systems. Mainly because most of the features are never used by most of the users. So we are not planning to include any calenders, to do lists and message boards. Easy file sharing only.

Beta

Although there is no Web 2.0 ‘Beta’ in the logo, we aren’t even close to a 1.0 version. We are going to improve lots of functions and add some stylish features. Perhaps even some AJAX. But for now the basics are working just fine.

We gave a presentation about Project pocket to our classmates this morning. They will function mainly as beta testers. Hopefully providing us with useful feedback to improve the application. But everyone is free to sign up and function as beta tester!
